Who We Are

About AIM Australia

A democratic, not-for-profit community organisation dedicated to promoting the life, teachings, and vision of Dr B.R. Ambedkar.

Our Story

Organisation History

Ambedkar International Mission Australia (AIM Australia) Inc. is a democratic, community-run organisation incorporated in Australia. We are part of the global network of Ambedkarite organisations committed to advancing the principles championed by Bharat Ratna Dr B.R. Ambedkar.

The organisation was established by members of the Ambedkarite Buddhist community in Australia who felt the need for a structured, democratic body that could serve as the voice of the Ambedkarite community, organise community events, provide resources, and build international connections.

AIM Australia is affiliated with Ambedkar International Mission, a global organisation with chapters across USA, UK, Canada, Europe, and Asia. Together, we work to spread Dr Ambedkar's message of liberation, equality, and human dignity across the world.

The Visionary

Dr B.R. Ambedkar

Bharat Ratna Dr Bhimrao Ramji Ambedkar (14 April 1891 – 6 December 1956) was an Indian jurist, economist, social reformer, political leader, and the architect of the Constitution of India. He is revered as the father of the Indian Constitution and the greatest champion of the rights of the oppressed.

Born into a Mahar caste family — a group classified as untouchable under the caste system — Dr Ambedkar overcame immense discrimination to become one of the most educated people of his time. He earned multiple doctorates from Columbia University and the London School of Economics.

Dr Ambedkar fought tirelessly against caste discrimination, led mass movements for human rights, and drafted the Constitution of India which abolished untouchability and guaranteed fundamental rights to all citizens. On 14 October 1956, he converted to Buddhism along with approximately 600,000 followers in Nagpur, in what he described as a return to India's greatest tradition.

His philosophy of Navayana (Neo) Buddhism — rational, humanistic, and socially engaged — continues to inspire millions worldwide and forms the foundation of AIM Australia's work.
